Too Serve the Community

As Black Panther Party History Month draws near, it is important to acknowledge and reflect on the sacrifices made by Members, Supporters and Volunteers, on behalf of the Community. And on a recent Community give-a-way outing, CCBBP Volunteers and Members did just that. On Sunday Morning ( Sept. 22nd ) , CCBBP Volunteers & Members canvassed the streets of West Oakland ( along San Pablo Ave ) and Randomly passed out survival kits to the Homeless and other People in need.

The Survival Packs consisted of Bottled Water, Toilet Paper roll, various snacks and Knick Knacks, a T-Shirt, Socks and also a Hygiene Kit ( Soap, Razors, Deodorant etc). The give -a-way lasted from about 11 a.m. – 1:30 a.m. Where homeless and other community members showed their appreciation and suggested more of this sort of Community Outreach. Written By C.J. Our Story vs His Story

As we head into Black Panther Party History month, it is important to never forget one of the key components that was used and continues to be used to mislead, confuse and control the masses. And that is thru propaganda. Thru television, newspapers, magazines, billboards and nowadays the internet. Not only has corporations, but government agencies has used this method to essentially shape the culture and lifestyle of a specific people or group. During the parties heyday, the establishment constantly bombarded the public with “negative images” of the party. They depicted the Party as a gun-toting Black extremist group. To not only counter this smear campaign but to more importantly provide the people with accurate information regarding news and events, The Party Established it’s own Newspaper. This became one of the Party’s primary source of Funds, which helped spear headed many of the numerous community programs the Party had established. To commemorate the Black Panther Party’s dedication to providing the people with resources and information, we will be offering limited time Black Panther Party Newspaper collector Memorabilia. BLACK PANTHER PARTY 10-POINT PLATFORM AND PROGRAM

  1. WE WANT FREEDOM. WE WANT THE POWER TO DETERMINE THE DESTINY OF OUR BLACK AND OPPRESSED COMMUNITIES. We believe that Black ( African) and oppressed people will not be free until we are able to determine our destinies in our own communities ourselves, by fully controlling all the institutions which exist in our communities.
  2. WE WANT FULL EMPLOYMENT FOR OUR PEOPLE. We believe that the Federal Government is responsible and obligated to give every person employment or a guaranteed income. We believe that if the American Businessman will not give full employment, then the technology and means of production should be taken from the Businessman and placed in the community so that the people of the community can organize and employ all of it’s people and give a high standard of living.
  3. WE WANT AN END TO THE ROBBERY BY THE CAPITALISTS OF OUR BLACK AND OPPRESSED COMMUNITIES. We believe that this racist government has robbed us and now we are demanding the overdue debt of forty acres and two mules. Forty acres and two mules were promised 100 ago as restitution foe slave labor and mass murder of Black ( African) people. We will accept the payment in currency which will be distributed to our many communities. The American racist has taken part in the slaughter of over 50 million Black ( African ) people. Therefore, we feel this is a modest demand we make.
  4. WE WANT DECENT HOUSING, FIT FOR THE SHELTER OF HUMAN BEINGS. We believe that if the landlords will not give decent housing to our Black and oppressed communities, then housing and the land should be made into cooperatives so that people in our communities, with government aid can build and make decent housing for the people.
  5. WE WANT DECENT EDUCATION FOR OUR PEOPLE THAT EXPOSES THE TRUE NATURE OF THIS DECADENT AMERICAN SOCIETY. WE WANT EDUCATION THAT TEACHES US OUR TRUE HISTORY AND OUR ROLE IN THE PRESENT DAY SOCIETY. We believe in an educational system that will give to our people a knowledge of self. If you do not have knowledge of yourself and your position in the society and the world, then you will have little chance to know anything else.
  6. WE WANT COMPLETELY FREE HEALTH CARE FOR ALL BLACK AND OPPRESSED PEOPLE. We believe that the government must provide, free of charge, for the people, health facilities which will not only treat our illnesses, most of which come about as a result of our oppression, but which will also develop preventative medical programs to guarantee our future survival. We believe that mass health education and research programs must be developed to give all Black and oppressed people access to advanced scientific and medical information, so we may provide our selves with proper medical attention and care.
  7. WE WANT AN IMMEDIATE END TO POLICE BRUTALITY AND MURDER OF BLACK ( AFRICAN ) PEOPLE, OTHER PEOPLE OF COLOR AND ALL OPPRESSED PEOPLE INSIDE THE UNITED STATES. We believe that the racist and fascist government of the United States uses it’s domestic enforcement agencies to carry out it’s program of oppression against black people, other people of color and poor people inside the United States. We believe it is our right, therefore, to defend ourselves against such armed forces and that all Black and oppressed people should be armed for self-defense of our homes and communities against these fascist police forces.
  8. WE WANT AN IMMEDIATE END TO ALL WARS OF AGGRESSION. We believe that the various conflicts which exist around the world stem directly from the aggressive desire of the United States ruling circle and government to force it’s domination upon the oppressed people of the World. We believe that if the United States government or it’s lackeys do not cease these aggressive wars it is the right of the people to defend themselves by any means necessary against their aggressors.
  9. WE WANT FREEDOM FOR ALL BLACK ( AFRICAN ) AND OPPRESSED PEOPLE NOW HELD IN U.S. FEDERAL, STATE, COUNTY, CITY, AND MILITARY PRISONS AND JAILS. WE WANT TRIALS BY A JURY OF PEERS FOR ALL PERSONS CHARGED WITH SO-CALLED CRIMES UNDER THE LAWS OF THIS COUNTRY. We believe that the many Black and poor oppressed people now held in United States prisons and jails have not received fair and impartial trials under a racist and fascist judicial system and should be free from incarceration. We believe in the ultimate elimination of all wretched, inhuman penal institutions, because the masses of men and women imprisoned inside the United States or by U.S. military are victims of oppressive conditions which are the real cause of their imprisonment. We believe that when persons are brought to trial they must be guaranteed, by the United States, juries of their peers, attorneys of their choice and freedom from imprisonment while awaiting trial.
  10. WE WANT LAND, BREAD, HOUSING, EDUCATION, CLOTHING,JUSTICE,PEACE AND PEOPLES COMMUNITY CONTROL OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY. When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that, whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying it’s foundation on such principles, and organizing it’s powers in such form as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient cause; and, accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are most disposed to suffer, while evils are insufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But, when a long train of abuses and usurpation, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

Remembering Melvin Dickson

Melvin Dixon was a writer, poet, author and organizer whose passing marked a sorrowful day for those who had the privilege to work alongside him. In order to give those community members their moment to reflect and honor our brother, a local community event was held Saturday November 17, to celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mr. Melvin Dickson. His recent passing this past October continues to be felt across the Black Panther Party community. Melvin Dickson was one of the longest active Party Members, who then went on to found the Commemoration Committee for The Black Panther Party ( CCBPP) in the early 90’s.

The Event, which kicked off Saturday evening, hosted a variety of Speakers from Elder Co-Party Members, Longtime CCBPP Alumni, B.R.L.P Leadership, Friends and Business Associates. Speakers shared memories of Dixon that included lessons learned, words of wisdom and talks of adventures. Afterwards the evening continued throughout the night with music, poetry, food and celebration. The event was Co-Held at, and in Association with the Qilumbo Center, CCBPP, and the Black Riders Liberation Party.

While the memorial honored the life and legacy of Melvin Dixon, the event was also held to raise funds for the upcoming Bay Area Memorial/Tribute to Melvin Dickson, which was held on December 4th at 314 E10th St, Oakland, Ca . We will also be Celebrating various events during Black August and BPP History Month ( October). We will need volunteers for the numerous events. All Support is appreciated and accepted. The First thing to know about The Black Panther Party…

Perhaps the first thing to understand about the Black Panther Party for Self Defense, was that it wasn’t and is not a Racist Organization. While although the Party’s Purpose is to serve and Liberate African American Oppressed People. It was and is not in any sense the African American Equivalent to the Ku Klux Klan or the Nazi Skin Head Groups.

The Party grew out of the oppression, constant harassment and Police terror plaguing African American Communities throughout America. But during and since the Panther Party’s Founding, there has been negative propaganda promoting the Party as a gun-toting, “Govt” hating Racist Group.

But nothing can be further from the truth. The primary duties of the BPP was that of organizing dozens of Community Programs, Educational Training, Tutoring and Feeding the Youth and tending to the elderly. All other efforts went to running the Black Panther Party Newspaper.

So in conclusion, if you never knew, or happen to be a person of non-African American descent. Or even some African American themselves, who or what the Black Panther was and what they stood for. Here was one of the first things to know. And as you subscribe and continue further into our Blog, you will truly know what it is to be a Panther. All Power to the People!!
